2012 photographic safari - Africaraw

Etosha National Park

Eland (Taurotragus oryx), calves drink in the late afternoon at Sammenvloeing waterhole, Kgalagadi transfrontier park, South Africa.
Biology Note:- These calves appeared to be on their own. The mothers do seperate from their calves who are very closely bonded. The males, females, & calves join up into large herds in the next breeding season. There were numerous eland kills seen around the waterholes by the many lions around this area in 2012. The word "eland" is the dutch word for "elk"
