Etosha National Park

A large flock of African Openbill stork (Anastomus lamelligerus) take to the air in Mahango National Park, Caprivi strip, Namibia.
Biology Note:- The bill has a 6mm gap between the powerful upper & lower mandibles. It locates snails & mussels in the mud by probing & then pins them between the mandibles. When feeding on mussels the lower mandible is used like a knife blade to prize open the shell & scrape off the soft tissue
